Founded in 1922 and renamed honoring Dr. King in 1968, The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center is a central service provider for at-risk individuals, families and seniors. An independent nonprofit, the MLK Community Center fights hunger, promotes health, educates young and school age kids, supports families, and engages seniors all across Newport County.

“One Newport” is the theme behind the strategic plan being developed for city schools, envisioning a collaboration of the public schools with many other organizations and agencies in the city to boost achievements and opportunities for all students.

Major goals include having all third-graders reach reading and math proficiency for their grade level, and having all students meet the standards required of state standardized exams such as Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization dedicated to the healthy lifestyle and academic advancement of youth. Child & Family is the largest and most comprehensive social service provider in Newport County, and one of the largest in the State of Rhode Island.
